New Wine Report - May 2010
It seems that at this time of year the first of the month comes on us so fast. As I reflect on the work at New Wine this past month, I thank the Lord again for His provision and blessing. As of the end of June, donations and expenses were almost even. I count this as a gift, when I hear how so many works are really feeling the pinch of these times.
Good News for St. Matt's Lapeer! My last Sunday serving as interim is July 4th and Rev. David Hudspeth will step into the pulpit as new rector the following week. This means the additional funding from them (around $600/mo) will come to an end as well as in July support from the AMIA of $200/mo will end and be redirected to new works. Some (including me from time to time) may see this as a problem, but I am choosing to see this as another chance for God to provide. The easiest means is that the Lord would add to our number some new members who can contribute financially to the work right from the start.. Please join us in praying that we might once again see God's hand of provision.
One testimony from our fellowship is that the Sartors, who felt the Lord asking them to simplify and downsize, sold their house in ONE DAY! They then saw the Lord provide a new place, small yet within their budget and perfect for gathering people for fellowship and study in a beautiful new 'great room' . Barb and Jim, who have the gift of hospitality, witness over and over again how this was all a God thing. Members of their cell group joined with their family and friends moving them from the old home to the new one.
Also this Easter Season I have enjoyed preaching a sermon series on "Spying on a Living Church". Based on material from Bishop Robert Schanse, I have suggested that in churches where there is life they practice: Passionate Worship, Radical Hospitality, Extravagant Generosity, Intentional Discipleship and Risk-Taking Mission. Where we see New Wine living this out in many ways there is always room for improvement. Pray that these practices may grow and flourish as we serve Jesus.
We are also excited about hearing that Micah Chisholm, a young youth pastor from Midland, has been accepted to seminary in Pittsburgh with hopes of returning to Mid-Michigan in a few years to serve and even plant a new church. I have been able to come alongside and mentor Micah and again it is evident that the Lord is directing his path. Pray with us as we come alongside him and his future wife Stephanie as they enter formation to serve as an AMIA church planter.
Members from one of our Cell groups helped out again in an annual neighborhood clean up in the Court Street Village area of Flint where we worship on Sundays. People are beginning to recognize the people as members of our fellowship and we have found great favor in their sight. Pray that we might meet more people, serve and bless them by our life in their community. Pray also that some of these relationships will lead to direct ministry of the good news. A second Cell group is preparing to host a 6 week DVD and discussion on 'A Case for Christ'. Pray that as they invite friends and neighbors to this series that again people may be drawn to a deeper knowledge of Jesus.
Deb and I will take two weeks vacation the beginning of June for our son Joshua's wedding. We are so excited for him and Sarah and the time of celebration with many of our family and friends. Pray for God's favor and blessing on them as they begin their life together. The next New Wine Report will not be till July.
Blessings to you all from the "Vineyard of the Lord",
Dave+ & Deb
